Art block dragons

When I have art block, I draw dragons. But this time I'm determined to actually get something done. Here's some progress shots with my phone (sorry for grainy, fuzzy, yellowish pictures).

Illustrative Title Assignment

For my Illustration in the Market class. The assignment was to find an article and create an illustrated title that expresses what the article is about. (the article is about the high demand for sushi and fish products depleting the world's fishing resources because of mass overfishing) The title is the word "Sushi" made of sushi and "sustainable" written in soy sauce. I tried to show depletion by drawing some of the sushi as just scraps or bitten into, etc. And added chopsticks taking pieces away to illustrate the continuation of this problem.

It is done with watercolor with gouache paint for the rice, micron pen outlines and mechanical pencil for the drop shadows.

Finished: Winxie

Finished picture for my neopet, Winxie. She is a ghost Lupe, so this is my take on the "ghost" color. I was really lazy with the background. So, the stylized trees are "the disappearing forrest" a forrest that appears only at the stroke of midnight and at 12:01. You may only enter the forrest at this time. Time moves very slowly on the outside world while you are in the forrest. Winxie is the guardian of the forrest and will act as a guide to visitors.

WIP Ekatsu

Here is the progress I am making on my drawing of my neopet, Ekatsu. I had to redraw the body about 10 times because it just wasn't working for me. I'm happy with how it turned out now. Again, I don't have a clue what to do with the background....>_<

WIP Winxie

WIP sketch on Photoshop. Will be colored and have a background to be used on my neopet's petpage. (I got re-addicted to neopets) So this is my design of my ghost lupe, Winxie. I don't like the current one (Original ghost lupe painting) that I did back in December or January. So I'm going for something more realistic and a little more creative :) (I hope this isn't going to look too gory for neopets...)

Self Portrait

Did a self portrait for the heck of it. I really needed a new ID picture on my deviantART page. (Kiniki-Chan) I always feel weird about doing self portraits DX And even though my hair isn't blue anymore, I made it that way just because the blue hair is what I feel is more representative of who I am. I don't know if it needs something else :/ maybe I might tweak the colors before I put it on dA.

Another Clock!

Koi fish themed. Took about 4 hours total. The spray painting was a nightmare...it just didn't want to bond to this plastic the way the yellow did on the other clock. Oh well, I'm overall very happy with how it turned out.

Got some spraypaint and painted the outer part of the clock. I like how it turned out.

Decorated the face of an old clock I had lying around. Just for fun. I still want to paint the outer part of the clock as soon as I get some spray paint.

I did this at 3am on mother's day because I didn't have any other time to do it and this was in place of a card. She loved it :)

Color Theory Story Book

A book project for my color theory class (and the final project for my freshman year of college!!! Surreal! ) It's a hand-made book telling a story and using color to express mood/ emotion. Did this all in one night....@__@ couldn't find time any other time but the night before it was due! Ah, college....

I have noticed that I've gotten a lot better at drawing people since we've been doing figure drawing (which I suppose was to be expected) Faces and proportions as well. Also, most of these were drawn on the back of my assignment pages...^^ so please excuse the folds and ghost words!

Getting better at drawing faces! (I hope!) The eyes are a little wonky, but overall I feel like I'm improving. This is a sketchbook assignment done in red/ sanguine conte. Now on to another sleepless night finishing sketchbook assignments I should have done last week! :D

PROGRESS!!

Making progress..still need to do the body/dress, the skin is coming along nicely. I do feel like it's missing some life or something though. There is just something missing about it...:/ I don't know, I'll figure it out. Also, if you haven't seen it already, check out the amazing and adorable poem my two friends wrote for the blog! This was the first nude model session I've done and I must say...it was sufficiently awkward...but the drawing turned out pretty nice. This was our 20 minute figure drawing for drawing II.

Old Stuff: Blue Hair!!

This is old (maybe a year old?) But I never posted it anywhere, so I thought maybe I'd post it here. I made this as a test/ guide for when I first got my hair dyed blue. Haha. And I ended up not using any of these options, but rather just getting lots of blue streaks. Now my hair is teal and I have streaks everywhere!

WIP Sketch Layer

Working on some personal art. I really wanna get back to digital painting and get waaaaayyy better at it. Only way to do that is to actually do a digital painting...! Here is the sketch layer so far. Hope I have time to get this done soon. Reference for pose from here (Sketch was all done digitally) I'll put up a process gif maybe when it's done.
